Application Description
Serving as cup-type ball seals, VespelĀ® polyimide parts extend the temperature and pressure capabilities of a range of high-pressure ball valves primarily used in hydraulic equipment. The valves come in seven sizes ranging from 1/4 to 2 in. (6 to 50 mm).
Benefits Gained
Higher service pressure at elevated temperatures. Thanks to the excellent creep resistance, compliance and stable mechanical properties of Vespel® seals at elevated temperatures, Hycon rates valves fitted with such seals for maximum pressures of 3,000 psi (207 bar) at temperatures up to 500°F (260°C).
Easy operation. Opening torque is relatively low, even at maximum pressure, thanks to the low static coefficient of friction of Vespel® parts.
Quality assurance. The DuPont plant in Mechelen, Belgium, that makes these Vespel® parts has received coveted Ford Q1 and ISO 9002 certifications.
Resistance to hydraulic fluids. The Vespel® seats are highly resistant to attack or degradation by hydraulic oils.
Materials Selected and Why
Vespel® parts can operate at higher pressures at elevated temperatures than seals made of other materials evaluated by Hycon.
