Application Description

Precision-fabricated Vespel® polyimide parts serve as separator claws that peel up to 84 sheets of paper per minute from hot fixing rollers in high-speed office copier.

Benefits Gained

Smooth, reliable operation. Canon reports 90 percent fewer paper jams for machines with new claws. Claws made of another plastic softened and deformed when melted toner dropped onto them.

Long life. Lifecycle of claws is more than 1,000,000 copies

Materials Selected and Why

Vespel® polyimide parts, coated with Teflon® fluorocarbon resin for added lubricity. In this application, this combination provides the following benefits:

  • No deformation on exposure to melted toner
  • Low friction
  • Low wear
  • Precision – tips of claws are only 0.05 mm (0.002 in) thick
