What is Repellency?

Repellency is the ability of a fabric or carpet surface to resist wetting and staining by oils, water, soils and other materials.  Specifically, a liquid spilled on the surface of a DuPont™ Zonyl® Repellent treated carpet or fabric will bead up on the surface of the fabric or carpet and will not wet out or stain the surface as shown in the pictures below.

What is Stain Release? (Normally a Textile term)

The degree to which a stained/soiled fabric approaches its original, unsoiled appearance as a result of a care procedure, such as laundering.  A DuPont™ Zonyl® Stain Release finish enables the fabric to become clean after laundering- a ground in stain is removed during laundering as shown in the picture below.

What is Stain Resistance? (Normally a Carpet term)

The ability of a carpet to resist staining.  For example, when a cup of colored beverage is spilled on the floor a stain resistance carpet will not be stained.  The stain will be removed with blotting of the stain with a clean absorbent cloth and mild detergent, while an untreated carpet will show a bright stain that will be difficult to remove.  An example of the appearance is shown below.

What is Soil Resistance?

The ability of a carpet to resist soiling (looking dirty) with normal traffic after vacuuming.  The benefit of a soil resistant finish is shown in the picture below.
