  • Q: How do we choose the right Zonyl® or Foraperle® fluoroprotectant for our product?
A: Contact Us. A member of the DuPont Surface Protection Solutions technical staff will work with you to determine the proper formulation to meet your needs.

  • Q: What applications can I use DuPont fluoroprotectants for?
A: Zonyl® and Foraperle® fluoroprotectants are versatile enough for use on paper, paperboard and molded products that require grease and oil resistance. Applications include pet food packaging, microwave popcorn, molded products and food packaging.

  • Q: Where are Zonyl® and Foraperle® fluoroprotectants manufactured?
A: DuPont manufactures Zonyl® fluoroprotectants at its Chambers Works plant in New Jersey in the U.S. and at Villers St. Paul in France. Our dual manufacturing facilities give us expanded production capability and supply stability.

  • Q: What FDA clearance do you have for Zonyl® products?
A: All of our Zonyl® products (Zonyl® 9464, Zonyl® NF and Zonyl® RP) have FDA approval. See the Food Contact Registrations page for additional details.

  • Q: What are the main differences between the Zonyl® and Foraperle® products?
A: The products differ in several ways. Some are anionic while others are cationic. The suitability of each product for specific applications also varies. For details, please refer to the Product Overview and Technical Information.

  • Q: Can Zonyl® products be used in the wet-end paper manufacturing process?
A: The preferred product for wet-end application are Zonyl® 9464.

  • Q: What is the benefit of using a polymeric cationic such as Zonyl® 9464 versus using an anionic fluorochemical as the repellent paper additive?
A: There are several benefits of using Zonyl® 9464 as the repellent paper additive:
    – You can use regular water for the process rather than soft water, which minimizes your manufacturing costs.
    – Both products require far fewer retention aids during processing.
    – In addition to delivering oil repellency, both Zonyl® 9464 and Zonyl® 8868 deliver some degree of water repellency.

  • Q: Are there any precautions to take when using Zonyl® 9464?
A: Avoid any anionic additive in the treatment bath when applying Zonyl® 9464 to the substrate, which may cause the material to precipitate.

  • Q: Can paper that has been treated with Zonyl® products be heated in conventional or microwave ovens?
A: Yes. Zonyl® 9464 fluoroprotectant has been classified for packaging that receives microwave use, such as popcorn bags and fast food wrappers. For the full story, you can access the press release.

  • Q: Are DuPont fluorochemicals safe?
A: Yes. Thirty-five years of research and testing supports our confidence in the safety of DuPont fluorochemicals. Please review the Product Stewardship section of Technical Information for all the facts.
