Efficient Automotive Transmission & Driveline

The move to higher, multi-speed automatic transmissions to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy invites opportunities to reduce weight and frictional loss.

More sophisticated transmissions systems face aggressive fluids and increased weight from additional components. DuPont high-performance thermoplastics, elastomers, and specialty polymers can be used in automotive transmission and driveline components and systems to take out unneeded weight and also reduce frictional loss while extending the durability and reliability of mechanical components.

Powertrain Efficiency: Six of every seven liters of fuel put into a vehicle are lost to inefficiency, and a large portion of that is due to frictional loss. DuPont solutions reduce frictional loss and have the added benefit of reducing manufacturing costs.

Lightweighting: Using high-performance plastics and composites can shed pounds in valve bodies and covers, transmission control modules, baffles, and more.

Improved Performance: DuPont synthetic lubricants and DuPont™ Vespel® parts reduce friction and improve the performance and lifespan of underhood components.
