The Customer: Mohawk Group, the world’s leading flooring manufacturer.
The Challenge: Create high-performance commercial carpet tiles with environmental benefits.
The Solution: Mohawk Group’s “What Moves You” high-performance carpet tiles, featuring SmartStrand® Contract with DuPont™ Sorona® renewably sourced polymer.
Sustainable, High-Performance Carpet Tiles
SmartStrand® Contract carpet tiles with Renewably Sourced™ DuPont™ Sorona® deliver on all fronts: color-fastness, durability, softness, and stain resistance. Sorona® actually has permanent stain resistance engineered into the very fiber itself, so it can’t wear off over time, like spray-on topical treatments. As a result, Sorona® is exceptionally easy to clean - most stains wash off with water.
Taking Inspiration from Nature
Mohawk Group’s "What Moves You" collection is designed to stimulate the senses with nature-inspired patterns and colors, so it is only fitting that "What Moves You" carpet tiles are made from SmartStrand® Contract fiber containing bio-based DuPont™ Sorona® polymer. Sorona® consumes less non-renewable energy to manufacture than an equivalent amount of nylon 6 or nylon 6,6. And Sorona® contains 37% plant-based, renewably-sourced material by weight, replacing the petro-based material found in other carpet tiles. Creating carpet tiles with Sorona® helps reduce dependence on oil.
Taking the LEED®
David Duncan, vice president of marketing for Mohawk, says "SmartStrand® Contract with Sorona® wins, regardless of whether your design specs require performance or environmental benefits for LEED® points, since it contributes to both — in exceptional ways."
At DuPont, we’re all about working closely with our customers to meet challenges. "What Moves You" is DuPont’s third joint effort with Mohawk.
Helping Carpet Mills Meet Sustainability Goals
"Sorona® fiber technology enables carpet mills to offer carpet tiles that provide the critical performance attributes that commercial interiors demand, while also helping to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. This is just one example of how DuPont is collaborating with customers to help address the world’s biggest challenges," said John Lyons, global carpet segment manager for DuPont™ Sorona®.
