Soft as Polyester, Resilient as Nylon
Carpet fibers with Sorona® are pleasant to the touch and feature outstanding crush resistance and resilience, combining two of the most sought-after performance characteristics in a single, durable, more sustainable material versus petroleum-based options. Plus Sorona® has excellent dye fastness, for bold, long-lasting color. Carpet fibers produced with Sorona® raise the bar for performance — and aesthetics.
Performance You Can Measure
In Hexapod Walker (ASTM 5252-98a) carpet durability tests at 4,000 and 12,000 cycles, respectively, Sorona® consistently performed as well or better than nylon 6 and nylon 6,6, standing up to severe punishment. The Vetterman Drum (ASTM D5417-05) yielded similar results, with Sorona® again outperforming both nylon 6 and nylon 6,6.
Permanently Stain-Resistant to the Bone
Other materials rely on topical treatments for their stain resistance. The problem with topical treatments is simple — if it’s sprayed on, it can be worn off. The stain resistance in Sorona® is inherent, engineered directly into the fiber itself. Carpet fibers manufactured with Sorona® remain steadfastly stain resistant for the entire life of the carpet.
A Sustainable Option for High-Performance Carpet Fibers
Carpet fibers with Sorona® match or surpass the performance attributes of competitive carpet materials. Sorona® contains 37% renewable-sourced, plant-based material by weight, so carpet fibers produced with Sorona® leave behind a smaller non-renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission footprint than conventional materials like nylon 6, thus helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Quick-Drying and Easy-to-Clean
Carpet fibers with Sorona® have a lower moisture content so carpets dry quickly, making them easier to clean and inhibiting mildew and unpleasant odor. And unlike other materials that require special chemical cleaning treatments, permanently stain-resistant Sorona® can be cleaned with ordinary, everyday household cleaning products.
