MIAMI, FLA., Dec 1, 2011 – Enthusiasts of great design will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an original piece of art created by one of the world’s top designers. Ninety-six distinct works made with DuPont™ Corian® solid surfaces are the focus of DesignLove, an exhibition and auction presented by progressive design company Luminaire and French design magazine Intramuros. The exhibition is taking place during Art Basel, the world's premier international art show for modern and contemporary works. Each of the distinctive works featured in the exhibition was made from a single A4 sheet of Corian® Designer White, a color introduced in 2010 at the request of top architects and designers. Proceeds from the sale of the Corian® solid surface artworks will benefit the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami.
“An enormous amount of creativity went into producing each of the original pieces of art,” said Elizabeth Lawson, North America New Business Development manager, DuPont Surfaces. “It’s wonderful to see these works brought together at the DesignLove exhibition and being sold for such a worthwhile charity.”
Shown together for the first time, the 96 works of art brought together for DesignLove were originally created for two separate exhibits, Carte Blanche – held at the Corian® Design Studios in New York City and Philadelphia; and Plaques Sensibles – which took place at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and at Milan's Centre Culturel Francais. Ingo Maurer, Philippe Starck, Jean Nouvel and Yves Behar are among the renowned designers who created pieces available for viewing and purchase.
The DesignLove exhibition takes place at the Luminaire Lab in Miami (3901 NE 2nd Avenue) Nov. 28 and Dec. 6 and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The online auction runs Monday, Nov. 21 at 12 p.m. EST through Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. EST. Each piece has a starting price of $1,000.
“Our Love series of exhibitions is defined by a profound unity with friends and colleagues for a singular cause,” said Nasir Kassamali, president and co-founder of Luminaire. “The third iteration, DesignLove, is part of Luminaire’s ongoing initiative to fight cancer using the transformative power of design.”
