Thomas G. Powell

President - DuPont Protection Technologies

Thomas G. Powell is president - DuPont Protection Technologies. Mr. Powell started his career at DuPont in 1982 in Aiken, S.C.

Over the next several years he held various assignments in Engineering, Technology, Production and Product Line Management in South Carolina, California, Texas, and Delaware. In 1995, Mr. Powell relocated to Singapore as Asia-Pacific regional business and operations manager for DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers.

Following three years in Asia, Mr. Powell returned to Wilmington, Del., and in 1999 he became managing director of the DuPont Intellectual Assets Business, a newly formed business focused on management and licensing of the DuPont portfolio of technologies. In 2000, he was named a global business director for DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers. He was named president - DuPont Greater China in 2004 and relocated to Shanghai, China. Mr. Powell returned to the United States in 2006 and was named vice president and general manager - DuPont Building Innovations, responsible for DuPont offerings to the construction industry including Corian®.

In June 2007 he relocated to Richmond, Va., as vice president and general manager - DuPont Advanced Fiber Systems. In 2009, DuPont combined the Advanced Fiber Systems, Nonwovens, and Personal Protection businesses into a new strategic business unit, DuPont Protection Technologies, focused on protecting lives, protecting critical processes, and protecting the environment. Mr. Powell was named vice president and general manager with global responsibility for some of the best known product lines in DuPont such as Kevlar®, Nomex®, Tyvek®, and Sontara®. He was named to his current position in October 2009.

Mr. Powell is a native of South Carolina and a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
