Hinton J. Lucas, Jr. is vice president and assistant general counsel for DuPont. Mr. Lucas has been with DuPont for over 35 years in a number of different areas of responsibility, including Legal, Operations, Technical Marketing, Marketing, Government Affairs and as director of Personnel and Labor Relations in Human Resources.

As a member of DuPont Legal for over 30 years, Mr. Lucas, in his current position, is responsible for all legal aspects for DuPont in the areas of labor, employment, benefits and immigration, and sourcing and logistics. In addition, as chief administration counsel, he is responsible for DuPont Legal’s organizations focused on information technology, administrative and litigation services and finance/budgeting. He was named to his current position in July 2008.

Mr. Lucas has a long and distinguished record of community and external service. He is a member of the board of directors of the Blood Bank of Delmarva, the board of managers for Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, the Delaware Business Roundtable and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association. Mr. Lucas most recently was appointed a special trustee of Delaware Technical & Community College’s Educational Foundation, and is also a trustee of the Christiana Care Health System. He is an active member of the General Counsel Roundtable and the American Corporate Counsel Association. As a member of the American Bar Association, he is a member of the Labor and Employment Section, and the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession.

He is management champion for DuPont Legal’s Pro-Bono program which includes Delaware agencies and Delaware Court interactions. He also is the sponsor of the DuPont Pipeline Project, a program that develops skills and interest in middle and high school students from the Wilmington, Del., area and is a management champion for the DuPont Street Law Program.

Mr. Lucas has been a repeat guest speaker on the national front in the areas of labor and employment law issues, as well as corporate legal department management and cost. On the topic and related issues of diversity in the legal profession, he has been a speaker, presenter and change agent on the national front.

“A Call to Action Canada” named an award after Mr. Lucas in January 2010 for his leadership in improving the involvement of women and minorities in the legal profession. The Hinton J. Lucas International Award is given each year to in-house attorneys who demonstrate sustained commitment to improve the hiring, retention and promotion of women and minority attorneys.

He is a graduate of Hampton Institute (University). He received a masters in business from Central Michigan University and a J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law.
