When a major food and beverage company was seeking a baby food packaging barrier that could withstand the high temperatures of sterilization for maximum shelf life, they chose DuPont™ Bynel® adhesive resin.
The customer: The European division of a large, international food and beverage company.
The challenge: The company needed a co-extrudable adhesive for a baby food packaging barrier that would withstand the high temperatures of sterilization for maximum shelf life, and would also be microwavable, lightweight, and non-breakable.
The solution: DuPont™ Bynel® adhesive resin was selected for the baby food packaging. The company then created a 100-percent recyclable, 5-layer thermoformed baby food cup with a PP/EVOH/PP sheet that is coextruded using Bynel® adhesive as a tie layer to withstand the high temperatures of sterilization for maximum shelf life.
The coextruded Bynel® adhesive withstands the rigorous thermal processing required when producing long-life, ambient stable packages. The thermoformed round-shaped cups offer a barrier to oxygen, moisture, and UV light.
The results: For its baby food cups, the company now has the benefits of:
- An attractive and unique design that is microwavable, lightweight, and non-breakable.
- An easy-open package for consumers.
- Reduced transportation cost and warehouse space.
- Long shelf life.
