Together with Chery Automotive, DuPont showcases the use of engineered plastics to enable vehicle weight reduction.
- CHALLENGE: Energy
- INDUSTRY: Automotive
- LOCATION: Wuhu, China
This two minute documentary film follows the daily workings of a taxi driver in the city of Wuhu as he gives us running commentary of how proud he is to be driving a Chery taxi. He describes the superior handling and low operating costs of his taxi, thanks in part to the collaboration between DuPont and Chery.
As the film unfolds, Mr. Chen Anning, Vice President – Chery, explains that lightweighting technology is an important component of fuel efficiency, while Charlie Huang, from DuPont, explains that car lightweighting has been largely achieved by using engineered plastics to replace heavy metals. In these applications, plastics must be able to withstand high temperatures, which is where the engineered polymers, such as Zytel® and Hytrel® demonstrate their strength.
After a long day of chauffeuring passengers around the city of Wuhu, our taxi driver happily heads home to see his wife and son. Thanks to the collaboration with Chery, DuPont is helping drivers like him use less fuel and reduce emissions on the roads of China.
