DuPont is helping people with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases eat healthy foods that also reflect the tradition of the Mediterranean diet.
Italian Nutritional Healthcare™ (INH) has just launched a product line called INH For Life™, which contains Solae soy proteins and Litesse®, a polydextrose from Nutrition & Health. These ingredients have a low glycemic index, which means they do not rapidly increase blood sugar levels, which is good news for diabetics.
The first product series, available exclusively at pharmacies and online, includes desserts, biscuits, cornflakes, instant creams, and one of the symbolic dietary staples in Italy: pasta.
“We examined all available studies on diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and realized that there is an interesting niche market for food producers who can successfully combine health and taste,” said Alessandro Alberici, CEO and one of the founders of INH.
“We are one of the first companies to offer a delicious food alternative to those who are often required to follow a very restricted diet. Moreover, we try to do it with an Italian flavor. We scout for traditional Italian foods, collaborate with producers to reformulate them with a low glycemic index, and plan to export them around the world as an expression of local know-how.”
