Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Ellen Kullman and DuPont Performance Coatings President John McCool hosted various DuPont customers to the 20th Anniversary Celebration for DuPont, Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports last weekend at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida.
During the celebration, DuPont customers had the opportunity to engage with Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, and catch a preview of the special commemorative DuPont paint scheme.
“We are celebrating the longest running driver/owner/sponsor relationship in motorsports history,” she said. “To Jeff, I’d like to say thanks for being such a wonderful spokesperson for DuPont and many of our customers for 20 years. We appreciate all that you have done for us and our brands, and wish you continued success, both in your racing career, as well as in your post-racing endeavors.”
Jeff Gordon burst on the NASCAR Cup Series scene at the season-ending race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1992 with DuPont as a sponsor. After four championships, 86 victories, more than 250,000 customers entertained by DuPont through its sponsorship, and four DuPont primary paint schemes, Jeff reflects on the success of the partnership.
"DuPont gave a young guy with a dream a shot - and I'll never forget that," he said. "They have been a partner in so many more ways than just sponsoring our team. Over two decades, not only have they supported the business of racing at Hendrick Motorsports and my career, but we have built very strong relationships with all of the DuPont employees.”
Jeff celebrated his first victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the season finale on Sunday – his 87th career win.
“Jeff's 87th win and first at Homestead for both he and Hendrick Motorsports was an incredible finish to an unbelievable yearlong celebration of our 20-year-relationship,” said John.
"This win was for DuPont, and I think that's what I'm most excited about," Jeff said after the race. "To be able to have a special paint scheme commemorating 20 years together, have (CEO) Ellen (Kullman) here, and then to be able to kind of pay them back or give them thanks by pulling that car into victory lane was incredible.
"20 years with DuPont, and to celebrate it that way? I was pumped, and I know they were pumped, too!"
