Embracing a Safe Work Environment

DuPont News, November 5, 2012
DuPont La Porte plant employees use safe observation skills to ensure everyone is working in a safe environment.

DuPont employees and contractors at the La Porte site in Texas have achieved 13 years—more  than 15 million work hours—without  an event-related, lost-workday injury. This is the equivalent of each employee working more than 33,000 hours without a lost work-day injury. The site’s primary resident contractor, KB&R, has achieved 15 years without an event-related, lost-workday injury.

“Everyone at La Porte embodies the attributes required for ensuring we work safely,” said Dean Thompson, La Porte site manager. “I’m proud of the safety milestones, and I’m especially honored to serve with our employees and contractors as we demonstrate the fundamental safety practices and procedures essential to sustain our path of zero injuries.”

La Porte has implemented SafeStart®, an advanced safety awareness and safety skills program, as part of its training arsenal, encouraging employees to become personally responsible for their safety performance at work and home. The program teaches safety awareness and personal safety skills development, a primary component of a world-class safety system. Additionally, SafeStart® promotes observational techniques to help workers identify potential hazards or unsafe work methods.

The La Porte complex has three DuPont businesses: Crop Protection, Fluoroproducts and Packaging & Industrial Polymers.
