The Morocco Mall in Casablanca, Morocco, showcases DuPont™ Corian® solid surface, from the cladding to the interior furnishings. The 755,000-square-foot structure has 350 shops, an aquarium, an enormous IMAX® cinema, and even encloses another building.
The mall was designed to create a natural bridge between the building and the sea and is setting new standards in shopping center design. As innovative as the structure is the IMAX® 3D cinema. The cinema’s unique architecture features a 6,000-square-foot red shell of Corian®, weighing 20 tons. It embodies the concept of harmony with nature, taking the form of a shell with a bright red inside entirely made of DuPont™ Corian®.
The solid surface material’s natural solidity and its ability to be shaped allowed Architect Yasser Kahlaoui to give the illusion of a whole 3D structure. All the sheets of Corian® in the red color, which compose the ceiling, have different sizes and inclinations.
The shopping center could be considered the ultimate reference on the use of DuPont™ Corian® and its limitless applications. It has been been used to create monolithic and seamless furniture, as well as many other interior furnishings, as seen in the image gallery below.
Deborel Maroc, a Corian® fabricator, inserted the material into a unique project like the Morocco Mall to show the limitless design possibilities of the techno-surface, aiming at contributing to spread its use into the rising Moroccan market.
“The potential of DuPont™ Corian® is immeasurable and architects can give free rein to their creativity with it,” said Claudio Greco, public relations and media relations manager for DuPont Building Innovations.
