The DuPont Safety Perception Survey

Since 1999, the DuPont Safety Perception Survey has helped organizations to evaluate employees’ perceptions of their safety program and identify behaviors, attitudes and other factors that can derail a safety program. The survey consists of 24 multiple-choice questions that evaluate the three elements of safety management: leadership, structure, and processes and actions.

Scientifically Validated Methodologies
DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS) has used this survey at hundreds of clients around the world, and our database includes over one million responses covering 64 industries, 45 countries and more than 6,700 locations. In 2009, DSS completed a study of Safety Perception Survey data, in an effort to define what has always resisted quantification: why one plant site has outstanding safety performance, while another has poor performance.

The study findings conclusively demonstrated that all three aspects of safety culture — leadership, structure, and processes and actions — each correlate to injury rates. This study also validated the efficacy of our proprietary DuPont Bradley Curve  as a tool to guide our clients through the process of cultural change that leads to world-class safety performance.
